We have a dedicated team of friendly professionals at each of our practices, meet the team below.


  • Moin Valli
    Managing Director/Optometrist

    Optometrist, and Managing Director, Moin Valli is the driving force behind Valli Opticians Group. Founded in 2005 the group has grown to include fourteen practices in Huddersfield, Calderdale, Humberside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Wakefield, along with a domiciliary eye care business and a corporate eye care division.

  • Rachel Valli
    Marketing Director

    Rachel co-founded the Valli Opticians Group in 2005 with her husband Moin. The aim of the couple was to provide local eye care to the community with professionalism, dedication, and a great deal of experience. With her husband Moin, Rachel ensures that Valli Opticians provide outstanding eye care services locally.

Central Office

  • Christine Wrenn
    General Manager

    Christine started working at L Mitchell in Hyde in 1974. Her passion is her family, although she does like to sing and has recorded 3 swing/jazz albums. Her favourite food is lamb chops, mash potatoes and spring cabbage with good thick gravy! She says her key to success is drive and a passion to succeed, being respectful and knowing when to keep quiet!

  • Christopher Jones
    Clinical Development Manager and Contact Lens Optician

    Christopher qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1995 obtaining his Contact Lens qualification five years later. When not at work Chris is a a very outdoor person. He loves gardening and also has an allotment. He enjoys growing a vegetable patch with his wife and children. He also enjoys summer days barbecuing in the sunshine and being with friends and family.

  • Tracey Jones
    Regional Manager

    Tracey joined what was the family business in 1997, prior to the acquisition by The Valli Group. After completing a BA Hons Degree in Business Studies at Huddersfield University she gained several years work experience at Fox’s Biscuits, Tag Heuer and Debenhams. Her passions are food, drink and spending magic moments with friends and loved ones. Tracey says her key to success is to give 100% to all aspects of her life and be respectful, positive, honest and always be true to yourself.

  • Zoe Hazelden
    Corporate Clients Liason/Merchandiser/Admin

    Bubbly Zoe keeps everything running smoothly. Zoe can frequently be found tapping away at her keyboard and when she's not doing that she will be working in one of the Huddersfield practices. Zoe says she would like to have been a Snowy Owl, because they are so elegant, graceful and cute. A bit like our Zoe then!

  • Claire Atkinson
    Dispensing Optician

    With a fantastic eye for fashion, Dispensing Optician Claire is the "go to" woman for frame advice. With her wealth of knowledge of lens types she is also able to advise on all kinds of vision correction. In her spare time Claire loves to play tennis.

  • Josie Dawson
    Optical Assistant

    Josie has worked in the Almondbury practice for over 18 years and is a familiar face to many of the clients. On hand to offer frame advice or just a friendly chat, Josie keeps patients and staff smiling.

  • Julie Philliskirk
    Practice Manager

    Practice Manager Julie P heads up the teams at SD Haigh Opticians in Almondbury and Valli Opticians in Lockwood. Super organised Julie is popular with clients old and new, and helps to keep us all on our toes. Busy Mum Julie enjoys spending time with her family and walking her dog.

  • Zoe Hazelden
    Optical Adviser

    Bubbly Zoe keeps everything running smoothly. Zoe can frequently be found tapping away at her keyboard and when she's not doing that she will be working in one of the Huddersfield practices. Zoe says she would like to have been a Snowy Owl, because they are so elegant, graceful and cute. A bit like our Zoe then!

Valli Opticians Hebden Bridge

  • Eleanor Greenwood

    Hebden Bridge Optometrist Eleanor says the things she enjoys the most about her job are meeting some inspiring people and hearing about their work and interests. Eleanor's areas of special interests are sports eyewear and low vision home support. Outside work she likes exploring the countryside, rock-climbing and listening to live music.

  • Kayleigh Felstead
    Practice Manager

    Kayleigh Felstead is the manager of both the Calderdale branches. You will find Kayleigh looking after clients and staff in both Valli Opticians in Mytholmroyd and Mamtora Opticians in Hebden Bridge.

  • Mathew Reeves
    Senior Optical Adviser

    Mobile optical adviser Mathew has a wealth of experience in all aspects of optical dispensing. He enjoys playing the drums, going to music concerts, running, cycling and hanging out with friends. His favourite food is Mexican and he has a pet cat called Marple and a puppy called Walter.

  • Russell Ramsden

    With over 25 years experience Optometrist Russell splits his time between our Calderdale and Huddersfield practices. Russell enjoys spending his spare time with his family, 2 dogs and 3 horses. Russell enjoys the great outdoors and relaxing holidays away from it all.

  • Samantha Eastwood
    Optical Assistant

    Samantha Eastwood is the Calderdale regions administrator and divides her time between Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd, although she does help out in Almondbury and Lockwood on occasion. In her spare time Samantha enjoys cooking and baking.

  • Tracy Eastwood
    Senior Optical Adviser

    Senior Optical Adviser Tracy joined the team in 2012 and is based in our Hebden Bridge practice. Tracy keeps everyone on their toes with her fantastic organisation skills and attention to detail. Tracy enjoys DIY and is especially fond of her dogs, cats and 100+ chickens.

Valli Opticians Honley/Meltham

  • Heather Mowat
    Optical Adviser

    Glamorous Granny Heather has been with the Valli group since its foundation in 2005. Originally based in Honley, Heather now works in the Meltham practice. Heather's favourite thing? Holidays in the sun, and who can blame her.

  • Jessica Green
    Student Dispensing Optician

    Student Dispensing Optician Jessica says what she enjoys most about her job is meeting new people and learning something new everyday. Her favourite food is a proper home cooked Sunday dinner, "You just can't beat it!." Her pet hate is leaving a tissue in a pocket and realising when it comes out of the washing machine.

    Optical Adviser

    Well known in the village, Julie is the friendly face with a smile and a warm welcome behind the Honley practice reception desk. Julie is also a dance aficionado and loves all things ballroom.

  • Rachael Rose
    Dispensing Optician/ Practice Manager

    Having started working for Valli group as a Dispenser, Rachael went onto qualify as a Dispensing Optician. Now a practice manager, Rachael can be found dividing her time between the Meltham and Honley practices where she is on hand to help with frame and lens choice. In her spare time Rachael likes to walk her dogs, Frank and Ralph and enjoys looking after her tortoise Alice.

  • Sarah Duckworth

    Based between our Honley and Meltham practices, bubbly Sarah loves meeting different people and helping to improve their vision. When she isn't testing patients vision, Sarah enjoys knitting, mountain biking and working out at the gym. Sarah's favourite food is Cheesy Garlic Bread and her dream holiday is Santorini in Greece.

  • Carol Plumb
    Optical Adviser

    Optical advisor Carol Plumb has worked at Henry J Rose Optometrist for 7 years. Carol loves cooking and baking, and she thinks of herself as Hull's answer to Nigella Lawson. Carol also has a secret passion for caravans!

  • Greg Bailey

    Graduating from Bradford in 2002, Greg says he chose a career in Optics because he enjoys listening to people. Greg has been a keen scuba diver for over 40 years and unsurprisingly he says he would quite like to be a Dolphin. His dream holiday destination is New Zealand and he would love to visit Machu Picchu.

  • Kayleigh Buttle

    Kayleigh B is our Hull practice manager. She says the things she likes most about her job are being part of a great team that wants to help improve peoples quality of life, to make a positive difference to them and to the community. Kayleigh has a love all things Disney. In fact she says her most memorable event was her wedding day in Orlando, Florida. It was amazing!

Valli Opticians Wakefield

  • Adelle Mitchell

    Starting as an optical assistant, Adelle worked her way up and became a fully qualified optometrist in 2010. Moving from her home in Northern Ireland, she worked in Scotland before settling in West Yorkshire. Adelle splits her time between the Wakefield and Huddersfield practices.

  • Eleanor Swystun
    Pre-registration Optometrist

    Working under the supervision of Adelle, pre-reg Optometrist Eleanor is always willing to help. Eleanor, who started her career here as a Saturday girl and has worked at a number of the different practices over the years, is patient and helpful, assisting clients both old and young, and she always has a smile for everyone.

  • Jackie Evans
    Optical Adviser

    Always immaculate and with an eye for detail, Jackie, who is based in Wakefield, is happy to give frame advice when needed. Along with a good knowledge of lenses, Jackie is able to help clients when choosing their spectacles or sunglasses.

  • Lisa Mosley
    Optical Adviser

    Lisa is always on hand in our Wakefield practice to help clients, whether booking an appointment, choosing spectacles or with any other queries. A friendly voice on the end of the phone, Lisa is popular with clients both old and new.

  • Robin Bennett
    Practice Manager

    Wakefield Practice Manager Robin is the Valli group's Action Man. Robin is not afraid to exert himself for charity. Donning the Lycra Cycling outfit, Robin cycled 85 miles to raise money for Wakefield Sight Aid and is now thinking about taking on a climb to raise some more cash.

Aarons Opticians Stockport

  • Adrian Aaron
    Dispensing Optician

    Adrian studied Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford, following in the family who have been in optics since the 1940’s. Adrian says its great to continue this tradition. When not dispensing spectacles, Adrian enjoys weight training, swimming and walking the dog. His favourite foods are crispy duck, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and chocolate pudding and custard.

  • Bernadette Shield
    Branch Manager

    Having worked in customer service for over thirty eight years (over ten of those in optics), Bernie still loves meeting new people and enjoys the variety of every day being different. She wants to visit all the major cities in the world and she would rather like to meet Princess Anne. Bernie says her key to success is "Just doing my best".

  • Sharon Wild

    Sharon, who studied at Manchester UMIST, says she chose a career in optics because as a youngster she enjoyed science, and worked in an Opticians. She enjoys making a difference to someones situation and feeling useful. Sharon loves her holidays, anywhere with white sand and relaxation or the totally opposite.....skiing!

A.H. Mertons Opticians Birchwood

  • Dr Gillian Connor Scholes

    Gillian qualified from Bradford University in 2001 and obtained her PhD from Manchester University in 2007. Gillian says she enjoys the ‘detective’ nature of an optometrist - being given ‘clues’ (i.e. symptoms) and solving patients problems. She chose a career in Optics because as a youngster she was under the eye hospital for a lazy eye and squint, and had lots of appointments with the Opticians from an early age.

  • Emma Fortune
    Branch Manager

    Emma has worked in customer service for 27 years and she has a passion for delivering first class customer service and new challenges. Her favourite food is a Sunday roast or a Chinese. Her key to success is "being happy in your work and being confident in what you do."

  • Jane Skovgaard
    Dispensing Optician

    Jane who qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1997 says she chose a career in Optics because she couldn't see! When not in work, Jane enjoys cycling, watching films, gardening, watching house programs, cruising and traveling.

  • Yvonne Nock
    Optical Assistant

    Yvonne has worked at AH Mertons Opticians for 12 years. She enjoys working with the best team and isn't really sure what her key to success is. Yvonne would love to visit Las Vegas and if she could be anyone else for a day she would like to be Doris Day.

  • Cat Kidd
    Optical Assistant

    Having previously worked as a dental nurse, Cat has been with AH Mertons since early 2015. Cat's passion is customer service and she thrives on ensuring patients leave happily and want to return. She would like to visit the Philippines and her favourite food is Thai massaman, Penang curry and her mum’s lasagne!

  • John L Grayson

    John studied Optometry at UMIST in Manchester qualifying in 1976. He says his passion is to help prevent avoidable loss of vision especially with regards to diabetes. In his spare time John enjoys walking and reading, and he said If he could meet anyone he would like to meet Captain William Bligh of HMS Bounty.

  • Karen Hare
    Optical Assistant

    Karen has worked in our Chorlton-cum-Hardy practice for over six years and says the thing that excites her about her job is succeeding in satisfying a customer and knowing they are happy with the service. Karen would love to visit Hollywood and says her favourite food is Rabbit Gnocci from Alberts in Didsbury.

    Branch Manager

    Sue has worked in optics for 23 years, so there isn't much that phases her. She says her key to success is a motivated and happy team. Sue's favourite food is Chinese: "salt and pepper chicken, its yummy", and if she could be anyone else for a day she would like to be Madonna singing all those eighties hits!

A.J. Spurrett Opticians Blackburn

  • Derek McPhee

    Derek graduated from Cardiff University in 1993. With over 20 years experience, he has worked in both private practice and hospital eye clinics. At his previous hospital post, Derek specialised in paediatric eye care and adult low vision (magnifiers and significant sight loss). Derek particularly enjoys the challenge of complex cases.

  • Joanne Johnson
    Dispensing Optician

    Joanne has a passion for customer care, she excels at providing high quality dispensing and she is proud to provide all her patients with a first class customer journey. Joanne’s aim is to ensure that all her clients are always delighted and remain loyal to the business. In her spare time Joanne is an accomplished cornet player and she has played competitively for championship section brass bands including Milnrow Band, and the Pemberton Old Wigan DW Band.

  • Lucy Cooper
    Optical Assistant

    The baby of the family, Lucy joined the team at AJ Spurrett Opticians in 2012. The creative member of the team, Lucy studied a foundation degree in Art and Design at Blackburn college. Lucy’s hobbies include painting (acrylic and watercolour) and drawing.

  • Lynn Heatley

    Lovely Lynn has worked at AJ Spurrett Opticians for over 20 years and she has seen many changes along the way. Lynn’s is the friendly voice at the end of the phone, and she is happy to assist however she can. Lynn’s hobbies include interior design and walking her daughter’s dog.

  • Steven Whittaker
    Branch Manager

    Steven has spent 12 years working in Optics with some of the big chains. Steven says his Dad is his inspiration, teaching him how to be a good man and be the best he can. When not dispensing glasses, Steven likes to play the guitar, drums and piano. They're a real musical bunch these Valli staff!

  • Daffyd Evans
    Optical Adviser

    Dafs says he would love to experience a few days from the life of Dick Van Dyke. As a big film fan, Dafs' favourite films are 'Mary Poppins' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. Dafs has worked in customer services since his very first job aged 17. From HR, to Hotel Reception work, he says "I’ve always worked with the public and loved every minute of it".

  • Kath Laing

    Kath studied Optometry in Bradford in the 1970s and she has a passion for improving the quality of life for all her patients. When not behind the ophthalmoscope she enjoys keep fit, dance, skiing and walking. Her favourite food is chocolate and she would have loved to have dance lessons from Patrick Swayze.

  • Rianne Scragg
    Optical Assistant

    Optical Assistant Rianne says she loves her job because she feels that her and her colleagues make a great team, and that they make each day fly by with great fun and professionalism. Rianne's passions are lipstick, eyebrows, geeky stuff, Dinosaurs, criminology and gaming, although not necessarily in that order!

    Amie has worked at L Mitchell Opticians since 2014. She is very customer focused and enjoys meeting new people and making them feel welcome. When asked if you could be anyone else who would you most like to be, Amie said: "Victoria Beckham, just so I was married to David"!

  • Grace Chapman
    Branch Manager

    Grace studied Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford in 1993, and she has a passion for supplying good quality spectacles that look good and fit well. She says of her team: "they work well together in delivering excellent customer service". Her dream holiday destination is Australia, her favourite food is Chinese and she would love to have met Emmeline Pankhurst.

    Optical Assistant

    Katie says she enjoys coming to work because each day is different and she learns something new every day. Katie would love to visit Rome and her favourite food is sweet chilli, hummus and pitta bread. Photo to follow.

    Rosemary studied Optometry at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), qualifying in 1974. Rosemary says she enjoys being able to help maximise her patients vision with spectacles that they love or contact lenses. Outside work Rosemary enjoys spending time with her grandchildren both in the UK and New Zealand, she also likes to swim, cook, go walking, visit the theatre and potter in her garden.     Stacey has worked for L Mitchell Opticians for 12 years and she said it is the patients and the team that make her job exciting. She says her key to success is the love and support from her family and friends. Stacey loves cheese on toast and she would love to revisit New York some day.

  • Gill Walsh
    Optical Assistant

    Gill loves meeting and greeting the public. She says everyday is different and her key to success is being a non judgemental person. She says: "treat people as you expect to be treated yourself. Be hard working and dedicated in what you do and you will reap the rewards you earn. Being a nice person I find is a success".

  • Howard Fisher

    Howard studied Optometry at City University London and says his passion is to provide the best eyecare and be the best in helping his patients achieve optimum vision and comfort. Outside work Howard enjoys Football (playing and watching), Music (he has been to Glastonbury for the last few years) and Photography. His dream holiday destination is the Serengeti National Park and he would love to meet Kate Bush.

    Jayne has worked at JJ Bennetts Opticians for 12 years. Her passions are music and her babies. She would love to visit America again and if she could be anyone else for a day she would most like to be Neil Armstrong!

    Karen has worked in customer service for 37 years so there's not much that phases her. She says she would love to visit Dubai, and she has a passion for food.

  • Kathryn Eckersley
    Dispensing Optician

    Kathryn studied Ophthalmic Dispensing at Bradford. She says the team she works with in Maghull are very positive and work well together and all care about the patients, the practice and each other. Kathryn says she chose a career in Optics because she has had an interest since her first pair of spectacles at the age of 11. Outside work Kathryn enjoys Interior design, DIY, aromatherapy and alternative therapies.

    Lab Manager

    James has worked in an optical laboratory for over twelve years and has been with us for over ten of them. James says he is excited by the challenges presented and pretty much every day has a new one in the lab. The team is like a family so it is always fun! When he isn't working, he likes to watch Manchester City play and he also loves to spend time with his children. James loves music, so he enjoys going to live gigs and festivals. James loves Saudi Arabia, he has been lucky enough to visit Riyadh three times for 6 weeks at a time. He says it is an
    amazing country packed with history and culture.

  • Lynn Hindley
    Lab Administrator

    Having worked in an Optical laboratory for over 20 years, Lynn keeps everyone organised and works really hard to deliver outstanding service. As the lab administrator, Lynn ensures the smooth running of operations, and always has her finger on the pulse! Lynn's favourite food is a good old Sunday lunch.

  • Peter Hindley
    Lab Technician

    With a wealth of experience of over 34 years, Peter certainly knows his stuff and he still enjoys the fact that everyday is different. Peter says the most inspiring place he has visited is Mon Repos on the Greek island of Corfu, the summer residence built for General Sir Frederick Adam, the British Lord High Commissioner in1828. A big fan of Richard Branson, Peter says his burning desire is to win the lottery.
