Ortho-K

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical option to having clear vision throughout the day without the need for spectacles or contact lenses. This means you can participate in all activities without the worry of being able to see, or your glasses steaming up or your contact lens drying out.

Ortho-K is available to individuals who are short-sighted (myopia). Myopia is where the length of your eye is too long or your cornea is too steeply curved. As a result, distance vision is blurred but you can see objects up-close. Individuals who have a low level of astigmatism can also benefit from Ortho-K. Astigmatism is where the cornea has a different curvature in different directions, a bit like a rugby ball.

Ortho-K procedure involves wearing a rigid gas permeable contact lens overnight, which changes the shape of the cornea by flattening it. The lens is removed in the morning and the clear vision lasts all day.

Myopia Control

For myopia control, Ortho-K is an excellent option as it can slow down the progression of myopia by reducing the growth rate of children’s eyes by 30% to 50%. With the added convenience of your child not having to wear any glasses or contact lenses during the day, Ortho-K is certainly worth considering when deciding the best possible solution for your child’s eye care needs.

Soft daily disposable contact lenses are also available for myopia control. Award winning lenses, MiSight® 1 day contact lenses, are a breakthrough in contact lenses technology and have a special optical design which may help to slow down the speed at which myopia (short-sightedness) progresses. Simply put, if a child is short sighted, they may need a stronger prescription as they continue to grow. However, introducing MiSight® 1 day at an early stage may help to slow down prescription changes.
