Valli Rally participant Robert Coombs stunned our team in Honley on Friday morning when he came into the store with a cheque for £450 worth of sponsorship.

Each year staff and clients from our Huddersfield branches take part in a 10-mile charity walk, usually for the Forget Me  Not Children’s hospice. This year however Valli Opticians hosted the  fund raising event on 19th September in memory of Kamal who was  just 32 years old when he died of acute myeloid leukaemia, only two months after diagnosis.

A dedicated charity worker Kamal set about raising thousands of pounds during his treatment. He was determined to raise as much money as possible from his hospital  bed, pledging to raise £50,000 for Bloodwise, formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, by undertaking a 26 mile hospital marathon. Kamal intended to cover the marathon distance within the confines of his hospital room, armed with just a pedometer. Kamal had completed ten miles and raised just over £11,000 but he passed away before he raised the full amount.

Mr Coombs was a long term client of Kamal’s and he was one of the first people to sign up to do the walk. Many thanks go to Mr Coombs for a grand job in supporting the Valli Rally and raising the funds.
