Wakefield District Sight Aid

wakefield_facebook_ad_imageValli Optician in Wakefield has teamed up with Wakefield District Sight Aid (WDSA) to support people diagnosed with sight and impairment and blindness.

We are offering the local community discounts on sight tests, firstly to encourage them to have their eyes examined to ensure their own eyes are in perfect health.  However, for every appointment made before 1st December 2016, we will donate £2 to WDSA which is based very nearby in Outwood Wakefield.  And every appointment booked via this initiative will be entered into a prize draw and the winner can choose between an Amazon Kindle or a pair of RayBan sunglasses as a prize.  The residents of the local community of Outwood and surrounding areas should look out for the leaflet shown here on this link:  0015_valli_wakefield_dl_lr6.

It is part of Valli’s commitment to support people with eye health problems and follows our very own Robin Bennett’s cycle ride to raise funds for the charity a few years ago.

“Robin and the Valli team in Outwood have supported us for many years with both fund raising and practical help where possible,” said WDSA’s chief executive, Graham Bell.  “We rely almost totally on donations and a major challenge for WDSA is raising awareness about what we do.

“People facing a diagnosis that they have sight impairement or total sight loss have emotional as well as physical issues to face.  Our role is dual: we want to ensure they can remain mobile and independent using practical aids and we offer them services such as befriending as we want to support people who may be feeling lonely and isolated as a result of their condition which has an impact on their social wellbeing”  he added.

Robin Bennett, Manager of Valli Opticians in Wakefield said that the practice had chosen to support WDSA because it was at the heart of care for those losing their sight in Wakefield.

“The WDSA offers practical help and support for people with very poor eyesight.  As opticians we often help those with visual impairement with visual aids and specialist glasses, but we can also financially support WDSA with this initiative and raise awareness amongst our community about their work.  We will deliver 7000 leaflets door to door locally, and 20,000 via Facebook, offering patients either £15 off an eye test or a £15 discount on glasses and then donate £2 for every eye test booked.  Every person we see with a leaflet at our practice will also be entered into a prize draw and will stand a chance of winning a pair of Ray Bans or a Kindle”.

“Eye health is imperative to prevent premature loss of sight for many people and we know that a regular sight test will highlight disease early allowing. As community opticians we encourage everyone to have a regular check up regardless of whether they think they have a problem” he added.
